Kimi Antonelli sends… to Mercedes ab… Lewis Hamilton. Read More.

Kimi Antonelli, a rising Italian star in motorsport, has expressed his eagerness to replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes in Formula 1.

The 17-year-old has been linked to the second Mercedes seat during his rookie Formula Two season.

Reports suggest that Mercedes may announce Antonelli as their new driver at the Italian Grand Prix in Monza, signaling him as their top choice, especially with Max Verstappen now considered out of reach for the team.

In a recent interview with Autosport, Antonelli acknowledged the pressure and challenges associated with stepping up to Formula 1 but emphasized his readiness and determination.

He admitted that the fear of not performing is natural, but he views the opportunity as a chance to learn, grow, and enjoy the journey.

Antonelli stated, “I’m not afraid of being judged, I know Mercedes has a clear opinion about my potential.

This season in F2 didn’t start well, but there were no negative thoughts. I am calm and would eagerly seize the opportunity if it came my way.”

Despite the ongoing rumors, Antonelli remains focused on his current Formula Two campaign.

He joined Prema Racing at the beginning of the season, partnering with Ferrari-backed Oliver Bearman.

While both were expected to be strong title contenders, Prema Racing has struggled with the new generation of F2 cars.

Nevertheless, Antonelli has managed to stand out, leading Bearman 87-34 in their intra-team rivalry and securing two race wins so far this season.

Antonelli remains humble about his prospects with Mercedes, stating that while he is honored to be considered, he is not actively seeking anything beyond his current goals in Formula Two.

“At the moment, my goal is to do well in Formula Two, then we’ll see,” he said.

Although the idea of joining Mercedes in Formula 1 is appealing, Antonelli views it as a distant dream for now.

“Yes, I did happen to think about it, but it is a passing thought. In all honesty, I can tell you that for me today it is still a dream. We’ll see if it comes true,” he concluded.

For now, Antonelli is focused on making the most of his F2 opportunities while keeping the possibility of an F1 future in mind.

His calm and measured approach, combined with his talent, makes him a promising candidate for Mercedes as they consider their options for the future.
