They acquired infielder Tommy Edman and reliever Michael Kopech from the Chicago White Sox in a three-team deal also involving the St. Louis Cardinals. Addressing their infield needs, the Dodgers later announced the acquisition of infielder Amed Rosario from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for pitching prospect Michael Flynn.
This marks the second consecutive trade deadline where the Dodgers have acquired Rosario, having brought him in from the Cleveland Guardians last summer. Rosario, 28, offers versatility, being able to play second base, shortstop, third base, and outfield, which likely appealed to Dodgers’ front office head Andrew Friedman.
With three new players added in one day, the Dodgers are expected to remain active before Tuesday’s trade deadline. There are reports of a potential blockbuster trade. Despite leading the National League West with a 63-44 record, the team still has a notable need in its rotation.
Before the trade, Rosario was hitting .307 with a .748 OPS in 264 at-bats for the Rays. In return, Tampa Bay received 27-year-old reliever Michael Flynn, who had a 4.95 ERA in 28 appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City.
