Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton has surged up the 2025 Sunday Times Rich List, overtaking global celebrities and music icons to claim a spot among the UK’s wealthiest individuals. The seven-time world champion has seen a staggering rise in his fortune, now valued at £385 million—up £35 million from the previous year.

At 40 years old, Hamilton’s recent switch to Ferrari has proven to be not only a major career move on the track but also a lucrative financial decision. His deal with the legendary Italian team is reportedly worth £50 million annually, securing him one of the highest salaries in Formula 1 today. But Hamilton’s wealth isn’t just driven by racing. He has also expanded his off-track ventures, taking on high-profile ambassador roles with premium brands such as Lululemon and Dior, solidifying his global appeal and business acumen.

Thanks to these lucrative endeavors, Hamilton now ranks 324th on The Sunday Times Rich List, surpassing some of the entertainment industry’s biggest names. Grammy-winning singer Ed Sheeran, along with beauty mogul Charlotte Tilbury and talk show legend Ellen DeGeneres, now sit below Hamilton on the prestigious list. Notably, both Tilbury and DeGeneres made their Rich List debuts this year, while Hamilton continues to ascend.

The Richest of the Rich in 2025

While Hamilton’s rise is impressive, he still trails far behind the elite billionaires dominating the top of the list. For the fourth consecutive year, Gopi Hinduja and family claim the number one position, boasting a staggering £35 billion fortune. Their wealth, despite economic uncertainty and trade disruptions under U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies, remains unmatched in the UK.

Coming in second are David and Simon Reuben, well-known for their investments and ownership of Newcastle United Football Club. Their net worth is reported to be just under £27 billion. Third place belongs to Leonard Blavatnik, owner of the sports streaming giant DAZN, with an estimated £25 billion.

Amongst the financial titans and industry magnates, familiar names from the world of sport and music also made the list. Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone holds the 81st position with a net worth of £2 billion, showing that motorsport continues to be a major wealth generator.

Music legend Sir Paul McCartney also made headlines this year by becoming the UK’s first musician to reach billionaire status, with his fortune now exceeding £1 billion. This achievement secures his place as the wealthiest musician on the list in 2025.

A Surprising Royal Twist

One of the more unexpected twists in this year’s ranking is the placement of former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and his wife Akshata Murty. Together, they have amassed an impressive fortune of £640 million, putting them ahead of King Charles III. While both are on the list, Sunak edges out the monarch by one place—an ironic shift given their respective positions of power.

As Hamilton continues to make waves both on and off the track, his financial trajectory suggests his influence is only growing. With top-tier racing contracts, savvy brand partnerships, and a growing presence in the business world, Lewis Hamilton is speeding towards billionaire status at full throttle.
