- Lewis Hamilton’s £13 Million Car Collection: A Showcase of Rare Masterpieces
Lewis Hamilton, one of the most successful Formula 1 drivers in history, has amassed a £13 million car collection, featuring some of the rarest and most exclusive vehicles in the world. The 39-year-old, who is set to join Ferrari next season, has accumulated significant wealth since his F1 debut in 2007, allowing him to indulge in his passion for cars. Known as a car enthusiast, Hamilton has an eclectic mix of modern supercars and timeless classics.
In an interview with GQ in 2020, Hamilton admitted: “I don’t know much about wine or art, but I do know cars, and I’m very particular about them.” Among the crown jewels of his collection is a custom-made Ferrari LaFerrari, which he bought in 2015. The car, finished in Ferrari’s signature red, features his personal logo on the bodywork, making it a one-of-a-kind piece. Hamilton reportedly paid over £1 million for the LaFerrari, one of the fastest cars in his collection, with a top speed of 217 mph.
Despite his longstanding association with Mercedes, the team does not mind him owning cars from rival brands like Ferrari. Another rare gem in his garage is the Ferrari 599 SA Aperta, a highly sought-after model of which only 80 units were made. Hamilton is believed to have spent over £2 million on the Aperta.
Previously, Hamilton owned a bespoke Pagani Zonda 760, crafted specifically for him. However, he sold the car in 2021, and it later made headlines when the new owner crashed it in a tunnel in Wales. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident.
In 2022, Hamilton took delivery of the Mercedes AMG One, a cutting-edge hypercar built with F1 technology, boasting a top speed of 220 mph. Fellow F1 drivers, including Nico Rosberg and David Coulthard, also received deliveries of the AMG One. Hamilton’s collection also features other Mercedes models, such as the AMG GTR, which was used as the official F1 safety car between 2018 and 2020. For daily driving, he prefers the electric EQC SUV, reflecting his interest in sustainable vehicles.
Hamilton’s love for vintage cars is evident in his ownership of a 1966 Shelby Cobra, estimated to be worth around £4 million. Another standout in his collection is a Ford Mustang Shelby, modeled after ‘Eleanor,’ the iconic car from the film Gone in 60 Seconds. His garage also includes a McLaren P1, which he purchased after leaving McLaren for Mercedes in 2013. This supercar can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in under 2.7 seconds. Another prized possession is a McLaren F1 with chassis number 044, a nod to his famous racing number.
Despite owning such an extraordinary collection, Hamilton rarely drives these cars on public roads. In a 2022 interview with Vanity Fair, he revealed that driving on regular roads makes him anxious. “People say, ‘You drive at 200 mph!’ But I find that easier than driving here. On these roads, anything can happen. It’s stressful.”
While many of his cars remain tucked away in his garage, Hamilton’s collection reflects not just his wealth, but his passion for unique automobiles. Whether it’s modern supercars or classic icons, each vehicle tells a story of the champion’s personal taste and journey in the world of motorsport.
