Liverpool competes with Everton for Leeds’ unified star.
Archie Gray is already being courted by Everton, but they have to get past Liverpool, their Merseyside rivals, who are already preparing a bid for the Leeds United player.
The Daily Mail claims that a number of Premier League teams, including Everton, are interested in Gray. The 17-year-old’s performance for Leeds this season has many elite teams on high alert. He has been one of the Championship’s shining lights.
The Whites are now third in the standings and have fielded Gray in 14 of their 15 second-tier games under Daniel Farke. In addition, he has started 12 of his games for the England U19 international team. In the Championship, Gray has even played right back in his last four games.
Gray made his Leeds first-team debut on the opening day of the 2023–24 campaign, starting at home against Cardiff City. Before the 2-2 draw, he had only played for the Whites’ academy squads. The child joined the Elland Road family when he was nine years old.
However, Premier League predators are already swarming West Yorkshire in hopes of making a bid for the midfield player. What he has given Farke thus far this season has been appreciated by several elite teams. Everton and Crystal Palace are two teams that are interested in signing Leeds native Gray.
However, Liverpool seems to be in the lead as the Reds are getting set to make a bid to sign Gray in the summer of next year. According to The Daily Mail, Anfield executives have begun making preparations for a possible £40 million raid. Leeds is adamant about holding onto their academy product.
Although Gray’s contract at Elland Road is set to expire in June 2025, his performances have primarily led to a high appraisal. Leeds estimate his fortune to be between £40 and £50 million. The Daily Mail adds that Trent Alexander-Arnold of Liverpool has been compared to him because to his adaptability.
Even Leeds hero Jermaine Beckford used this adjective to characterize Gray as “phenomenal.” After serving as the engine room anchor for the Whites in August, he was really delighted by the young player’s efforts against Cardiff. It was Gray’s first game, but the Bluebirds only managed to catch him off guard once.
