Liverpool FC issues a statement following the kidnapping of their parents in Colombia.
Colombian police have confirmed that Liverpool winger Luis Diaz’s parents have been abducted from their native city of Barrancas.
According to Semana, the couple, Luis Manuel Diaz and Cilenis Marulanda, were accosted by armed people on motorbikes as they were headed home.
Since then, it has been verified that the army and security personnel’s operation resulted in the release of Diaz’s mother.
But as of today, neither his father’s whereabouts nor those of the perpetrators are known.
An update on the operation has been given by Colombia’s National Police head, General William Salamanca.
“We already have the mother, she is in good health, scared, but she is fine,” he stated.
The father was taken away by motorbike; he was taken out of the vehicle and driven along the nearby trails.
“We are committed to carrying out checkpoints and identifying people on motorcycles.”
The army is helping President Gustavo Petro find Luis Manuel Diaz.
Colonel Geovanni Cristancho, the head of Colombia’s hostage-crisis-trained Police Gaula, is anticipated to travel to Guajira and assume command of the situation in the meantime.
Liverpool issued a club statement on the terrible situation on Sunday morning.
The statement says as follows: “Liverpool Football Club can confirm that it is aware of an ongoing incident in Colombia concerning Luis Diaz’s family.
“We really hope that everything can be handled securely and as soon as possible. The player’s well-being will remain our top focus in the interim.”
