LONGHORNS COACH DROPS A MESSAGE ON SOCIAL MEDIA TO TEAM/FANS….
Seven Texas Longhorns players were named to the first-team All-Big 12 roster, the conference announced Wednesday. Three other Texas players were named to the second team to bring the total to 10.
First-team honorees include receiver Xavier Worthy, tight end Ja’Tavion Sanders, offensive lineman Kelvin Banks, linebacker Jaylan Ford, defensive linemen T’Vondre Sweat and Byron Murphy, and kicker Bert Auburn.
Second-team honorees include: running back Jonathon Brooks, receiver Adonai Mitchell, and defensive back Jahdae Barron.
Sweat was also named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year, while Mitchell was named Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year. Linebacker Anthony Hill became the eighth Longhorn to earn Defensive Freshman of the Year and the first since 2018, joining Cory Redding (1999), Derrick Johnson (2001), Rodrique Wright (2002), Brian Orakpo (2005), Quandre Diggs (2011), Malik Jefferson (2015) and Caden Sterns (2018).
Worthy currently leads the team in receptions (67) and receiving yards (883) and has totaled five touchdowns. Sweat has notched 40 tackles, two sacks and 8.5 tackles of losses. Ford has a team-leading 88 tackles to go along with two pass breakups and a pair of interceptions.
