The ex-defender delivered a harsh assessment of Manchester United’s Champions League loss.

Rio Ferdinand claimed that Manchester United’s 3-2 Champions League loss against Galatasaray on Tuesday was due to a lack of focus.

At Old Trafford, the Red Devils twice had the lead but ultimately left empty-handed after a defensively disastrous evening. Before Casemiro was dismissed and the hosts gave up a late third, the two United leads against Galatasaray lasted for six and then three minutes each.

After the game, Ferdinand criticized the club for its lack of defensive leadership before asserting that even kids’ soccer players understand the need of maintaining focus after scoring.

In the 3-2 loss, each member of United’s back five committed a mistake, according to Ferdinand, who insisted the defense had to get better moving forward. “It’s the group. I usually think that, but people do have good games,” the 44-year-old stated. “Whether it’s the goalkeeper or one of your center halves who talks and communicates, I think you need organizers in the back.
