McLaren driver signing announced as Ex-F1 star RETURNS
Former Formula 1 driver Timo Glock is set to return to the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM) in 2025, signing with Dorr Motorsport McLaren.
The 42-year-old German will drive the McLaren 720S GT3 EVO, replacing Clemens Schmid in the team’s two-car lineup.
Glock’s return to DTM marks his first appearance in the series in three years, after a career in F1 spanning five seasons from 2008 to 2012 with Toyota, Virgin Racing, and Marussia.
McLaren recently celebrated a historic milestone by winning the 2024 Constructors’ Championship in Formula 1, their first since 1998, with drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri leading the charge against fierce rivals Ferrari.
The team’s motorsport success extends beyond F1, with McLaren competing in other series like IndyCar and DTM.
Speaking to Bild, Glock expressed enthusiasm for his new role and his confidence in contributing to the team’s growth. “The connection with DTM never fully disappeared,” he said.
“Dorr Motorsport has an ambitious project, and I’m excited to bring my experience to the team. My goal is to help the team consistently finish in the top 10 in its second year, and even aim for podiums.”
Despite his age, Glock believes he remains competitive, drawing inspiration from Fernando Alonso, who continues to thrive in F1 at 43.
“I’m in top form and confident I still have what it takes,” he added.
This move highlights McLaren’s continued involvement in diverse motorsport categories, leveraging experienced talent like Glock to strengthen their DTM presence.
The collaboration with Dorr Motorsport represents a fresh chapter for Glock as he aims to make an impact in his DTM return.
