Perez lands NEW drive as Red Bull reveal contract regret
Sergio Perez’s future with Red Bull has been uncertain following a series of underwhelming performances during the 2024 F1 season.
Despite the speculation, Perez has expressed confidence that his contract with the team will be honored, though doubts arose after his disappointing DNF at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
Team principal Christian Horner recently admitted he regretted Red Bull’s decision to extend Perez’s contract earlier in the year.
Speaking during the Abu Dhabi GP weekend, Horner explained that the extension was made in hopes of maintaining Perez’s strong early-season form, which included four podiums in the first five races.
However, the move didn’t yield the desired results as Perez’s performance declined in subsequent races.
While Red Bull evaluates its options for 2025, including promoting junior drivers Liam Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda, Perez appears to have found a new role within the team.
In a social media post, he revealed his involvement in testing the Ford Raptor T1+, an off-road vehicle designed for the Dakar Rally.
The V8-powered Raptor T1+ was developed through a collaboration between Red Bull and Ford, the latter set to supply Red Bull with next-generation power units starting in 2026.
This project highlights Red Bull’s broader partnership with Ford and Perez’s potential contributions outside of F1.
However, the team has yet to confirm if Perez will remain part of their F1 lineup for the 2025 season.
The decision is expected to be made during the winter break as Red Bull considers its long-term strategy.
