Player set to go from Liverpool in January?
Thiago Alcantara is one of the players that has had difficulty contributing to Liverpool in recent years.
When Thiago Alcantara moved from Bayern Munich to Liverpool in the summer of 2020, a lot was expected of him.
It was also expected that Liverpool’s £20 million transfer fee for the former Barcelona player was a steal.
But Thiago hasn’t exactly been successful at Liverpool.
Overwhelming injury issues have significantly impacted the 32-year-old’s Liverpool career.
The Spanish midfielder has occasionally performed admirably when on the field, but he just can’t seem to break through for the squad.
After the current season, Thiago’s contract with Liverpool expires. According to Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson, a former player for Arsenal, the Merseyside club will not offer him a new deal and will let him go in the summer of 2024.
“Thiago Alcantara has been incredibly unlucky with injuries, but I’d be shocked if he stayed at Liverpool beyond this season,” Merson said to SportKeeda.
Though I can see him leaving as a free agent at the conclusion of the season, the Reds are unlikely to offload him in January because he’s still a great performer when healthy.
