Report: Former Alabama Standout Eddie Jackson Signing with Ravens

Jackson becomes the fifth former Alabama standout on the Ravens roster, as he joins 2015 Heisman Trophy-winning running back Derrick Henry, Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis and rookie offensive guard Darrian Dalcourt.

Eddie Jackson, a former star safety for Alabama, has signed with the Baltimore Ravens, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Schefter posted on X (previously known as Twitter): “A Ravens-type move: Two-time Pro-Bowl safety Eddie Jackson reached agreement with Baltimore today on a one-year deal, per sources.” “A safety with six defensive TDs for the Bears now will bring his talents to Baltimore.”

Jackson signs with the Ravens, who concluded the previous regular season with the best record (13-4) in both the AFC and the NFL. After guiding the Baltimore Ravens to the AFC Championship and then losing to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl, quarterback Lamar Jackson was named the second NFL MVP.

Eddie Jackson joins running back Derrick Henry (2015), Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis, and rookie offensive guard Darrian Dalcourt as the fourth former Alabama standout on the Ravens squad.

The Bears selected the Crimson Tide product with the 112th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Jackson was named Defensive MVP and went on to win the 2016 National Championsip.

Jackson was among the NFL’s top defensive backs in 2018. With six interceptions, he had the second-highest number in the league, and he returned two of them for touchdowns—the most in the NFL. He was selected to the First Team All-Pro and made his first Pro Bowl appearance.

Jackson made his way back to the Pro Bowl in 2019, but the Bears’ offensive woes caused them to finish with an 8-8 record and miss the playoffs.

Jackson did not record an interception in the 2020 or 2021 season, although he did register his highest total of tackles ever in each of those seasons. Despite only participating in 12 games, he managed to record 80 total tackles and four interceptions in 2022.

He only appeared in 12 games the previous season after contracting the injury bug. However, he only had 37 tackles this time, so his figures were far from 2022.

Jackson will, however, start over on a team that is fighting for the Super Bowl.

The Baltimore Ravens have reportedly made a significant addition to their secondary, signing former Alabama standout Eddie Jackson. This move brings a proven playmaker to Baltimore’s defense, bolstering a unit that has been a cornerstone of the team’s success in recent years.

Eddie Jackson, who was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft, quickly made a name for himself as one of the league’s premier safeties. Over his career with the Bears, Jackson earned two Pro Bowl selections and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2018. Known for his ball-hawking skills and ability to make game-changing plays, Jackson has amassed 14 interceptions, 10 fumble recoveries, and six defensive touchdowns in his NFL career.

Jackson’s signing addresses a key need for the Ravens, who have been looking to strengthen their secondary. Baltimore’s defense, traditionally one of the most formidable in the league, struggled with injuries and inconsistency last season. Adding a player of Jackson’s caliber provides a boost in both talent and leadership.

Jackson is expected to pair with safety Marcus Williams, creating a formidable duo in the back end of the Ravens’ defense. His versatility allows him to play both free safety and strong safety positions, giving defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald flexibility in his schemes. Jackson’s ability to read quarterbacks and make plays on the ball will be invaluable as the Ravens look to reclaim their defensive dominance.

In Baltimore, Jackson will reunite with former Alabama teammates Marlon Humphrey and Patrick Queen. This familiarity is likely to aid his transition into the Ravens’ system and locker room. Additionally, the Ravens’ coaching staff, known for maximizing the potential of their defensive players, will provide an environment where Jackson can thrive

The Ravens’ acquisition of Eddie Jackson is a clear signal of their intent to strengthen their defense and make a deep playoff run in the upcoming season. With training camp around the corner, all eyes will be on how Jackson integrates into the team and impacts their defensive performance. Fans in Baltimore can look forward to seeing one of the NFL’s top playmakers donning the purple and black this season.
