REPORT: Jerry Jones’ Plan B To Coach Dallas Cowboys In 2024.

Following the team’s heartbreaking loss to the Green Bay Packers in the Wild Card round, Mike McCarthy was apparently owner Jerry Jones’ second pick to lead the Dallas Cowboys in 2024 basketball. Prior to the offseason, Jones declared that he would assess McCarthy’s postseason performance before making a decision regarding his 2024 status.

Rumor had it that the Cowboys were considering hiring Bill Belichick, the head coach of the New England Patriots. Being a six-time Super Bowl champion, head coach Belichick had to appeal to a businessman who openly expresses his desperation for yet another title.

Mike Florio of NBC Sports reports that Jones is thought to have gotten in touch with Belichick last week about the Cowboys position. But Belichick has no desire to deal with Dallas’s or Philadelphia’s media circus.

The Belichick to Atlanta deal isn’t finished yet, but there’s talk throughout the league that it’s headed that way. According to a league source, Belichick is thought to be finished with “big-market media,” which is why he would prefer to move to Atlanta over Dallas or Philadelphia.

Regarding the Cowboys and Eagles, there is a notion in certain league circles that after both teams showed interest in Belichick, the franchises chose to remain with their present head coaches after Belichick declined their advances.

McCarthy was Jones’ backup plan to take over as head coach in Dallas the following season, if the allegation is true. That would explain why Jones held off on declaring his intention to keep McCarthy with the Cowboys for the last season of McCarthy’s contract for a few days following the Packers’ defeat.

The article also reveals that Jones is unwilling to give up his publicity tour in order to work with a coach of the caliber of Belichick. Jones’s remarks and radio appearances would not have pleased Belichick. Jones doesn’t want to lose badly enough to give them up.
