According to Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette, former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Ben DiNucci declined a chance to sign with the New Orleans Saints. DiNucci would have joined the Saints’ active roster if he had stayed on the Denver Broncos practice squad.

Theoretically, DiNucci would have had a little more job security if he had signed with New Orleans. Rather, DiNucci stays in Denver, where he is behind Jarrett Stidham and Russell Wilson as the third quarterback.

In an article published on December 14, Tomasson stated, “Quarterback Ben DiNucci turned down September offer to join Saints’ 53-man roster to stay on Broncos’ practice squad.” The New Orleans Saints attempted to sign DiNucci in September off the Broncos’ practice squad to their 53-man roster before he chose to stay in Denver.

That is what transpired prior to the Saints instead adding quarterback Jake Luton to their 53-man roster on September 26th, according to sources on Thursday. DiNucci stated in a Wednesday interview with The Denver Gazette that he was approached by another team about a contract, but he would not disclose the team.

DiNucci explained his decision to stay in Denver rather than relocate to New Orleans. While he did not mention the Saints, the veteran stressed how eager he was to learn from Sean Payton.

“At one point during the season, I was being pursued by another team,” DiNucci said to The Denver Gazette. “I wasn’t really eager to attend. I wasn’t exactly in the mood to be hopping around in the midst of the season.

Quarterbacks find it difficult. My first season (with the Broncos) is this one. To learn, I want to be a part of the system. This was a place I had a lot invested in.They promised to set things right with me by the end of the year.
