Reports: BUFFALO SABERS United make €40 million bid to sign art….
5 Cody Ceci, 4. Won some battles, lost some. 3 shots on goal, 3 blocks. GAS: ES +1/-3; ST 0.
#13 Mattias Janmark, 4. Near invisible by eye and by stat. Played a few ticks under 10 minutes without making a single impression on the Event Summary or the Grade A Shots count. 0 shots or attempts, 0 hits, 0 blocks, 0 takeaways, etc. GAS: ES +0/-0; ST 0.
#14 Mattias Ekholm, 4. He too had a quiet game. Beaten wide early by Alex Tuch who subsequently missed a wide open shot. Got burned on a neutral zone pinch though the Sabres muffed the odd-man chance that resulted that time too. GAS: ES +0/-1; ST 0.
#18 Zach Hyman, 5. The puck skipped over his stick on a couple of potentially-dangerous plays in tight to the Sabres net on a day nothing rhymed for the Oilers offensively. GAS: ES +2/-1; ST 0.
#19 Adam Henrique, 5. Did his best work away from the puck, notably on Perry’s net drive. Smart positionally in his own zone, which stood out on this day. 1 shot, 1 hit. GAS: ES +1/-1; ST 0.
97 Connor McDavid, 3. An uncharacteristically poor game from the captain, which might be explained by the above video and question even as we grade here on observed performance. Not much happening offensively, especially on a bumbling Oilers powerplay on which #97 coughed up possession more than once. Did ring a hard drive off the iron late in the first, the closest he came to extending his 13-game point streak. Had a partial breakaway in the third but stuffed his deke attempt into the side of the goal frame. Had a string of defensive mistakes down the stretch, starting with his turnover just inside the Edmonton blueline that led directly to the 2-2 and ending with an unforced d-zone giveaway in the dying seconds of overtime that Skinner somehow snuffed. In all he was among the defensive culprits on the last 5 Grade A shots of the game, 3 of them turnovers. Was easily turned aside by UPL in the shootout to end a desultory afternoon. GAS: ES +3/-5; ST 0.
