Bungling Rangers red card ref Marco Guida was SUSPENDED by Serie A after horror call ‘even a two-year old… Read More.👇

Marco Guida, the referee who controversially sent off Rangers’ Jefte during their Champions League qualifier against Dynamo Kyiv, has a history of contentious decisions that have led to disciplinary action in the past. The decision, which saw Rangers crash out of the competition and drop into the Europa League, has drawn significant criticism from both fans and the club’s manager, Philippe Clement.

During the match, Jefte received two yellow cards, with the second one coming in the second half after a challenge on Dynamo Kyiv’s Oleksandr Karavayev. Karavayev went down after the challenge, which led to Guida issuing the second yellow and subsequently sending Jefte off. This incident proved to be a turning point in the match, with Rangers conceding two late goals after going down to ten men.

Clement, visibly frustrated after the final whistle, confronted Guida on the pitch, expressing his anger at the decision. He later described it as the worst refereeing decision he had witnessed in his 30-year career, emphasizing how it shattered the hopes of the players and the 50,000 Rangers fans present at the match. Clement’s outrage reflected the deep disappointment felt throughout the Rangers camp, as they believed the red card had a direct impact on the outcome of the match.

Guida’s controversial decision against Rangers is not the first time the Italian referee has faced scrutiny. Two years ago, during a Serie A match between Torino and Inter Milan, Guida was heavily criticized for his performance, particularly for missing what appeared to be a clear penalty for Torino. The oversight was so glaring that former Serie A referee Paolo Casarin remarked that even a child could have recognized the foul. As a result of this incident, Guida and his VAR assistant were suspended by the Italian Football Federation for several matches, highlighting the serious nature of the error.

This history of contentious decisions has now followed Guida into European competition, with his latest call against Rangers adding to the list of mistakes that have marred his refereeing career. The fallout from this decision will likely continue, as Rangers and their supporters grapple with the disappointment of missing out on the Champions League due to what they perceive as an unjust red card.
