SAD NEWS FOR THE LIONS : HE IS BACK…
Jared Goff Speaks Candidly with the Media in Detroit
“I may need to address this soon because I anticipate being in Detroit for the long haul, but there’s this dynamic with our local media where they seem to thrive on negativity at times,” remarked Goff, as reported by AtoZ Sports. “Perhaps it garners clicks and sells, but it’s not conducive to our environment. We have a solid team.”
Goff was reflecting on a recent exchange with a Lions beat reporter prior to Detroit’s NFC Championship Game against the San Francisco 49ers. The reporter mentioned the Lions’ “really good players” who might not be seen as “superstars” like those on the 49ers.
While initially expressing gratitude, Goff withdrew his appreciation as the reporter persisted with his inquiry.
Goff clarified on the podcast that he didn’t intend to come across as rude, but he would have preferred to focus on Detroit’s players rather than discussing San Francisco’s roster. He felt the question implied that the Lions were fortunate just to compete against the 49ers.
“We’ve had success. We can acknowledge that. We can revel in it without constantly portraying ourselves as underdogs,” Goff elaborated. “Teams will be targeting us now. We’ve won the division and all that entails. Perhaps I’m overthinking it, but it’s the chip on my shoulder and the competitor in me.”
