Following his retirement announcement on Wednesday, rumors regarding Nick Saban’s potential replacement started to circulate.
Dan Lanning, the head coach of Oregon, is among the many elite college football coaches who have been considered as possible possibilities.
Lanning has worked as a defensive coordinator in the SEC for Georgia, and in 2015, while still a graduate assistant at Alabama, he assisted Nick Saban in winning a national championship.
Lanning said he’s committed to the Ducks for the long term, despite the fact that many thought he was a lock to start for Alabama given his success in the last two seasons at Oregon.
In an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Lanning stated, “Getting your name put in the conversation [for the Alabama job] speaks to what we’re doing here at Oregon.”
“I’ve decided to stay for the long haul ever since I started this job. I adore our current setup here.”
The upcoming season will see Oregon join the Big Ten, and they
maintain your competitiveness both on the field and in the recruitment process.
Lanning’s second Fiesta Bowl victory in as many years as a head coach came about when they thrashed Liberty.
An experienced, successful coach will accept the Alabama position.
Lanning satisfies that requirement, but he also seems dedicated to Oregon and the potential growth of the program.
