Prior to the Super Sixes, the two-time ODI World Cup winners faced an uphill battle as they needed to win every game and hope for favorable outcomes in other situations. But on July 1st, a Saturday, their aspirations were shattered when Scotland defeated them handily at the Harare Sports Club by seven wickets.
After winning the toss, Richie Berrington, the captain of Scotland, chose to bowl first. With the new ball, young bowler Brandon McMullen performed the heavy lifting, taking wickets of Brandon King, Shamarh Brooks, and Johnson Charles in the first six overs.
