If the previous week’s match seemed like a brutal experiment meant to instill a siege mentality, Everton has demonstrated this week that they are a team ready for the fight to come.

Burnley withered beneath the lights of the Grand Old Lady on Wednesday night following a valiant and outstanding victory that raised spirits against West Ham United on Sunday. With the exception of Everton’s reckless play in the last twenty minutes of the first half, which gave the visitors a chance to draw the game, Sean Dyche could not have asked for a simpler trip to the quarterfinals of a major cup tournament.

This seemed like a summer friendly, the ease with which the Blues dominated their opponents. That was reflected in the courteous celebrations that followed the first two goals.
