Sebastian Vettel, four-time Formula 1 World Champion, has voiced his support for Mick Schumacher’s potential return to the F1 grid—this time with Cadillac. The American team is gearing up to make its Formula 1 debut in 2026 as the sport’s 11th team, and while preparations are already in full swing, their driver lineup remains unconfirmed. One name, however, has caught Vettel’s attention: Mick Schumacher.

The German racing legend recently told Sport.de that Schumacher, 26, deserves a second chance in Formula 1. Vettel remains in contact with Mick and has been following his journey closely since he was released by Haas at the end of the 2022 season.

“I wish him well,” Vettel said. “We’re still in contact, and of course I saw how his time in Formula 1 ended. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for him because I truly believe he has what it takes to compete at this level.”

Vettel added that Schumacher has grown significantly as a driver since his F1 exit and praised his current efforts in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) with Alpine.

“Mick is at a completely different stage now,” Vettel explained. “He’s much more mature, and he’s doing a great job in the WEC. It would be great to see him back in Formula 1—Cadillac would be a perfect opportunity.”

Mick Schumacher Eyes a Return to F1

Schumacher, son of legendary seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, burst onto the scene with a promising junior career. He won the Formula 2 championship in 2020 and made his F1 debut with Haas the following year. However, his stint was underwhelming. Over two seasons, he managed to score just 12 points and was ultimately dropped from the team in 2022.

He then spent two seasons as Mercedes’ reserve driver, using the opportunity to stay connected to the sport. But in a surprise move, Schumacher stepped away from his Mercedes role at the end of 2024 to concentrate on racing full-time in the World Endurance Championship with Alpine. Despite his shift to endurance racing, the 26-year-old hasn’t given up on his F1 ambitions.

He was recently spotted in the paddock at the Miami Grand Prix and has reportedly impressed Cadillac’s senior advisor, racing legend Mario Andretti, during a recent meeting. His dedication and performances in WEC appear to have reignited interest in his F1 credentials.

Cadillac’s Search for Talent

Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 is one of the most anticipated developments in the sport’s recent history. The American outfit is expected to bring fresh energy to the grid and has already confirmed that it’s casting a wide net in its search for drivers.

Andretti has hinted that the team would like to have at least one American driver on board, with IndyCar star Colton Herta emerging as a leading candidate. However, the second seat is still very much up for grabs.

In addition to Schumacher, other names being considered include seasoned F1 veterans like Sergio Perez and Daniel Ricciardo, both of whom bring experience and fan followings.

While nothing has been confirmed yet, Schumacher’s mix of youth, legacy, and recent growth makes him an intriguing prospect. With Vettel’s endorsement and growing support in the paddock, a 2026 return to Formula 1 may be closer than ever for Mick Schumacher.
