SHEFFIELD UNITED STAFF called out a blades player for deceiving the club, country and….
Sheffield United midfielder Vini Souza is the topic of conversation among Blades fans this week after some bizarre comments.
Souza, a £10m signing in the summer, has flattered to deceive in the main this season. Like so many, he has struggled with the speed and quality of the modern Premier League.
However, Souza did an unsanctioned interview with a Flamengo fan channel this week and during that interview, he appeared to take aim at his Blades teammates.
“Not because of me, but because of the situation at my club. I think that for the national team it’s a bit of a problem. That’s my opinion. But not in relation to my football. I think that for my football I could [get called up], I really could. But there’s the whole thing, you know,” Souza said when asked about a potential call to the Brazil squad.
“My team doesn’t keep the ball much either. That’s very important for the national team. So it’s going to weigh a bit. And the players who went can defend and have the ball, so they can stand out more. And, well, the guys are doing a brilliant job too. So I was really cool.”
Behind the scenes though, it seems Souza has been relatively little trouble in his spell at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield United staff impressed with Vini Souza
According to the Sheffield Star, who followed up our report on Souza with their own take on proceedings, the Brazilian is actually well liked at Shirecliffe.
It’s claimed by the local newspaper that Souza been a happy figure at Bramall Lane since he arrived and staff behind the scenes have spoken positively about both his attitude and how he goes about his business.
Chris Wilder recently played down a spat with Jack Robinson.
However, given the nature of these comments – granted there could be some misinterpretation – it seems Souza hasn’t quite impressed everyone.
The Brazilian has no reason to think he’s been any better than anyone else. In fact, most weeks, he is way off it in terms of the level needed.
Quite how Wilder and the club handle this internally, remains to be seen.
