F1 team issue health UPDATE on driver at risk of missing Las Vegas Grand Prix

Williams Racing faced a major setback ahead of the Las Vegas Grand Prix after their driver, Franco Colapinto, suffered a severe crash during Q2 on Friday night.

The incident marked his third major collision in just two race weekends, leaving his car heavily damaged and raising concerns about his ability to compete in Saturday’s race.

The Argentine driver’s crash prompted immediate medical attention. Williams later confirmed that due to the severity of the impact, Colapinto was not cleared to race initially and required a follow-up medical evaluation on Saturday.

This uncertainty put additional pressure on the team as they worked overnight to repair the car.

Thankfully, Colapinto passed the medical re-assessment on Saturday afternoon and was cleared to participate in the Grand Prix.

While this was a relief for both the team and the driver, starting from the pit lane became necessary as Williams utilized the repair process to implement setup changes.

In an official statement, Williams Racing emphasized their commitment to Colapinto’s wellbeing.

“Franco’s health is our main priority, and we are relieved that he is well enough to race following such a significant incident.

We thank the medical staff for prioritizing his health and for the excellent care he received.”

The team also extended their gratitude to their hardworking garage crew and the fans for their support during the challenging situation.

The Las Vegas Grand Prix holds critical importance, with Max Verstappen aiming to secure his fourth consecutive drivers’ championship by finishing ahead of Lando Norris.

Meanwhile, the constructors’ championship battle remains intense. Despite Colapinto’s setback, Williams expressed determination to put forth a strong performance.

This incident highlights the risks involved in Formula 1 and the resilience required by teams and drivers alike.

With Colapinto back in the race and Williams demonstrating their capacity to recover under pressure, the team is poised to focus on delivering the best possible outcome in the iconic Nevada race.
