Ferrari DROP Sainz in stunning Abu Dhabi move as Hamilton replacement looms

Ferrari is set to make a significant change at the upcoming Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, creating history in the process.

The Scuderia confirmed that Carlos Sainz would step aside during the season finale’s first practice session, allowing Arthur Leclerc to join his elder brother, Charles Leclerc, on track.

This marks the first time siblings will share the Formula 1 grid since Michael and Ralf Schumacher raced together in 2006.

Arthur Leclerc, a Ferrari Academy graduate and current development driver, has gained experience through tests in Barcelona and Fiorano earlier this year.

The younger Leclerc has also showcased his talent with race victories in the European Le Mans Series and the Italian GT Championship.

His FP1 appearance is a momentous occasion for both Ferrari and the Leclerc family.

This decision comes during a transitional period for Ferrari.

Following this weekend’s grand prix, Carlos Sainz will leave the team and join Williams for the 2025 season.

This move was triggered by Ferrari’s announcement earlier in the year that Lewis Hamilton will join the team from Mercedes starting next season.

After 12 successful years with the Silver Arrows, Hamilton’s switch to Ferrari signals the end of an era, making Abu Dhabi his final race for Mercedes.

Ferrari approaches the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with renewed confidence, having closed the gap to their rivals in Qatar.

The Scuderia currently trails McLaren by 21 points in the constructors’ standings, leaving the championship still undecided.

The Yas Marina Circuit will also be the stage for several other driver lineup changes and farewells, as many teams prepare for 2025.

For Sainz, this race represents a chance to conclude his Ferrari tenure on a high note. The Spaniard has been a key figure for the team but now looks to the future with Williams.

Meanwhile, Ferrari’s focus remains on securing a strong finish to the season while celebrating this historic moment with the Leclerc brothers.
