FIA indecision raises questions for 2025 season – Qatar Grand Prix Hot Takes

Max Verstappen dominated the Qatar Grand Prix to cap off his fourth World Championship in style.

The race was eventful, with three safety cars and numerous penalties, including a costly stop-and-go penalty for Lando Norris late in the race.

McLaren’s struggles opened the door for Ferrari, as Charles Leclerc secured second place, keeping the constructors’ title fight alive heading into Abu Dhabi.

For Lewis Hamilton, the weekend was disastrous. The seven-time champion suffered a penalty for a false start, followed by a puncture caused by debris, and later incurred a drive-through penalty. He ultimately finished 12th, a disappointing result in a race to forget.

Sergio Perez’s struggles continued as he spun during a re-start and retired, marking another pointless outing for Red Bull.

His inconsistency has fueled speculation about Red Bull’s driver lineup for 2025. The decision to drop Daniel Ricciardo earlier in the season now appears questionable.

While Red Bull’s focus has shifted to evaluating Liam Lawson as a potential partner for Verstappen, Lawson’s performances have been underwhelming.

His error while attempting an overtake into Turn 1 in Qatar left him finishing behind teammate Yuki Tsunoda at the back of the field.

As Perez’s form deteriorates, Red Bull’s gamble on Lawson hasn’t delivered significant improvement, raising doubts about whether Ricciardo might have been a more stable option.

While Perez’s retirement in Qatar wasn’t entirely his fault, the team faces tough questions about its future lineup.

The Qatar GP highlighted Red Bull’s growing concerns over its second driver, casting uncertainty over its 2025 strategy.

Meanwhile, Verstappen’s brilliance continues to overshadow the team’s broader struggles.
