Cobblers Travel, the Earls Barton Cobblers, and members of the Community Trust’s disabilities team traveled to Wycombe by coach yesterday.

Trust director Ian Atkins, who managed the Cobblers in the late 1990s, used proceeds from the sale of his playing uniform and training equipment to cover the cost of the tickets and his trip.

“I was always impressed with the community work that was done to benefit those who were less able than others,” Ian stated. He attended Northampton University.

“Russell Lewis and his staff still do an amazing job at Sixfields; he was an inspiration back then.

“Despite the fact that the outcome did not go as planned, I am happy that everyone had a fun day out.

“All things considered, Jon Brady has performed admirably at Northampton this season and should get a lot of credit for the team’s success.”

A councillor has stated that there was no justification for Wokingham Borough Council to deny Wycombe Wanderers access to Reading FC’s Bearwood training facility.

Following the revelation that a planning clause limited the ground’s usage to Reading FC, the Chairboys withdrew their plans to purchase the ground from the club. In order to remove or modify that condition, Wycombe would have needed to submit an application to Wokingham Borough Council.

However, Wokingham Borough council member Clive Jones told BBC Radio Berkshire that he thinks the council would have likely had to say yes.

“I personally couldn’t see any issue,” he remarked. Planning would not have required us to declare, “No, we can’t do that.” But that’s only a step in the procedure.
