A Boston Celtics reporter is scared of a playoff meeting versus the Sixers with Joel Embiid back in the lineup.

Souichi Terada from MassLive expresses concerns about the potential impact of Joel Embiid’s return to the Philadelphia 76ers lineup on the Boston Celtics in the postseason. Terada acknowledges that while facing the Sixers in the first round isn’t an easy task, his worry lies more in the repercussions it could have for the Celtics in later playoff rounds.

Embiid’s absence due to injury has led to a recent decline in the Sixers’ performance. However, his potential return from a meniscus injury could significantly alter the team dynamics. While the Celtics might still be favored against a fully healthy Sixers squad, confronting them in the first round could lead to additional wear and tear, affecting their postseason prospects down the line.

The possibility of Embiid returning to action is slated for April 2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite his stature as a dominant force, Terada suggests that his effectiveness might be diminished coming off a lengthy injury layoff. Additionally, Terada points out that in previous playoff encounters, such as in 2023, Embiid’s impact was somewhat contained, with him being limited in scoring and shooting percentages.

However, Terada highlights Tyrese Maxey as the player the Celtics should be more concerned about. Maxey has had an outstanding season for the Sixers and has showcased his scoring prowess against the Celtics, notably dropping 78 points across three games in the 2023-24 season. Terada emphasizes Maxey’s ability to capitalize on momentum and exploit vulnerabilities, particularly from the three-point line, which could pose a significant threat to the Celtics, reminiscent of the Atlanta Hawks’ comeback victory over them on March 25.
