Vitalii Mykolenko’s “brilliant” long-range strike against the post wowed Sue Smith as Everton took the lead through Abdoulaye Doucouré at Crystal Palace. Doucouré is the first to react to a fantastic left-footed strike from the edge of the box that hits the post. I believe Jefferson Lerma is just playing him onside.
The 38-year-old veteran Ashley youthful this season has been chosen above Ben Godfrey and Mason Holgate, two converted center-backs from last season, by Sean Dyche, who has sometimes appeared persuaded by both of his youthful full-backs.
However, given the 24-year-old’s recent explosion in offensive production and better defensive play, the Everton manager is probably going to rank Mykolenko among the first names in the starting lineup.
Although Nathan Patterson, the former player for Dynamo Kyiv, is still having difficulty breaking into the team, he is currently becoming stronger and stronger.
Similar things might be said of a number of Everton players right now, who are enjoying a run of consistent success that has seen Dyche’s team win six of their last nine games across all competitions and just lose twice.
Given that the Malian is currently tied for the Toffees’ most goals scored (four), with Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Doucouré’s importance cannot be overstated.
One cannot undervalue the team going into the international break after a strong victory in which they overcame being behind twice to win the points. While many players are now playing well, Mykolenko is standing out.
