Darren Bent stated that despite Everton’s recent reversal in form following their victory against Burnley, they remain “miles off” from finishing in the top 10 this season.

The former striker for the Premier League said that Everton would be successful if they finished in the twelfth or thirteenth spot this year, but a top-half finish is already unattainable.

After winning two of their past three league games, Everton is presently three points behind Brentford in tenth place in the Premier League standings.

“I wouldn’t say [their target is] survival, but surely Everton fans don’t want another season where it goes down to the wire, biting their fingernails off and all of a sudden they survive by the skin of their teeth,” Bent said during a live talkSPORT interview on November 2, 16:52.

Even if they made it to the thirteenth or twelfth rank, which is, I dunno, a little more comfortable. They are much outside of the top 10. That won’t take place.

Sean Dyche and his team will just be taking things one game at a time, aiming to maintain up a strong winning record and seeing where they wind up at the conclusion of the season, regardless of target finishes, avoiding relegation, or expectations of finishing in the top 10.

They have begun to string together a solid run of success and appear to be a different team than the one that began the season without a victory in their first five games, having won two of their last three Premier League games and four of their last six games overall.

To discuss a high league finish would be to speak too soon. Although it’s vital to keep your expectations in check after a few victories, Dyche has great expectations for the team, and everyone connected to it, including supporters, will be fully aware of the difficulties they confront.

The goal is to maintain their current level of play, focus on each game individually, and consider it a bonus if they place in the top half. At this point, the objective must still be to avoid relegation.

In other Everton news, they may try to sign a major summer target as early as January.
