Treliving ‘needs a break,’ won’t return as Flames’ general manager
According to the individual tasked with leading the search for his replacement, Brad Treliving “requires a break.”
The Flames revealed on Monday that they have mutually agreed to part ways with Treliving, who has been at the helm of decision-making at the Saddledome for the past nine years.
One of Treliving’s key advisors, Don Maloney, has been promoted to president of hockey operations and will also serve as interim general manager. During a press conference held in the afternoon, Maloney confirmed that Treliving had turned down a contract extension. His current agreement was set to conclude at the end of June.
“Initially, I was confident that Brad would extend his contract, and I’m as close to him as anybody,” Maloney remarked. “However, when he informed me last Wednesday that he couldn’t commit, it became apparent that he simply needs some time.”
