The Detroit Lions are actively assessing and meeting with numerous top cornerback prospects in preparation for the draft.
Terrion Arnold, who was teammates with running back Jahmyr Gibbs at Alabama, shared pictures on Wednesday from inside the Lions’ locker room.
The skilled defensive back also shared an image at Jameson Williams’ locker, captioning the social media post with “Money man,” while exploring a locker room he may join in 2024.
According to draft analyst Dane Brugler, who released his annual “Beast” guide previewing the NFL Draft, “Arnold primarily played at left outside cornerback in former head coach Nick Saban’s scheme and would shadow receivers to the slot, depending on the matchup (24.4 percent of snaps inside in 2023). After redshirting in 2021 and playing a part-time role in 2022, he led the SEC in both passes defended (17) and interceptions (five) in 2023.”
During the pre-draft process, the Lions have also engaged with defensive backs Kool-Aid McKinstry, Ennis Rakestraw, Nehemiah Pritchett, Qwan’tez Stiggers, and Andru Phillips.
Head coach Dan Campbell indicated at the annual league meeting that the Lions are still keen on addressing cornerback needs, especially after Jerry Jacobs was not retained and Cam Sutton was unexpectedly released following an alleged domestic dispute in Florida.
“Arnold developed into one of the premier cornerbacks in the nation. Initially focusing on basketball in his athletic pursuits, Arnold exhibits fluidity when accelerating, decelerating, and maintaining control to stick with both basic and complex routes,” writes Brugler. “While possessing average recovery abilities, he must continue honing his discipline against both passing and running plays, yet his ball awareness is exceptional, and he demonstrates urgency in supporting the run.”
