THREE {3} THINGS TO NOTE AFTER JAYSON TATUN WON THE NBA CHAMPIONSHIP……..

Less than a day after the New Orleans Pelicans were knocked out of the 2024 playoffs, Brandon Ingram faced a question that gave him pause. He was asked if the Pelicans should pursue a traditional point guard in the upcoming offseason. After a brief moment of contemplation, Ingram responded:

“Adding one would definitely be beneficial,” he said slowly, nodding.

Ingram, reflecting on his team’s playoff exit at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder, may have been considering whether acquiring such a player could mean the end of his tenure in New Orleans. Since then, much of the speculation surrounding the Pelicans has focused on Ingram’s future and whether the team could trade him for a high-impact point guard to complement Zion Williamson.

Just before the onset of free agency on Friday, the Pelicans made their move to acquire the floor general they’ve been eyeing for some time. According to multiple sources in the league, they traded Dyson Daniels, Larry Nance Jr., EJ Liddell, and two first-round picks to the Atlanta Hawks for Dejounte Murray.

Murray, who made the All-Star team with San Antonio in 2021-22, has spent the past two seasons with Atlanta, posting some of his best career numbers. However, his partnership with Trae Young, one of the NBA’s most ball-dominant point guards, did not unfold as smoothly as the Hawks had hoped. With Atlanta finishing ten games below .500 last season, it appeared likely that at least one of the two would be leaving the team this offseason.
