Too costly for the Rangers to sign Jordan Montgomery.
There are still a number of excellent starting pitchers available in free agency, including Jordan Montgomery, the postseason MVP. There would seem to be many reasons for Montgomery and the Texas Rangers to be interested in getting back together, but there might be a major obstacle in the way.
Rob Bradford of WEEI reports that the Rangers are not currently aggressively attempting to sign Montgomery. Montgomery’s price tag appears to be too expensive for Texas, which is why the two sides are not engaged.
Since the beginning of free agency, not much has been known about Montgomery or what the starter is looking for in the market. According to one rumor, he would love to rejoin the Rangers, but given the current price tag, the organization doesn’t seem to be interested.
Montgomery was acquired by the Rangers during the trade deadline of the previous year, and he finished the season 4-2 with a 2.79 ERA. After that, he had a fantastic playoffs, pitching 14 innings in the ALCS with a 1.29 ERA.
Very little information about Montgomery or his trade preferences has been available since the start of the free agency period. He would love to return to the Rangers, but rumors have it that the team isn’t interested in him at the moment because of the cost.
Montgomery ended the season with a 4-2 record and a 2.79 ERA after being acquired by the Rangers during the previous year’s trade deadline. He pitched 14 innings in the ALCS with a 1.29 ERA after that, capping an incredible postseason run.
