The Argentina Football Association announced on Monday that Lionel Messi would miss Argentina’s forthcoming friendlies in the United States. Messi’s hamstring injury will keep him out of Argentina’s games.

Messi was hurt while representing Inter Miami in the CONCACAF Champions Cup matchup with Nashville.

Striker Campana also acknowledged, in an interview with MLS’s official website, that Inter Miami cannot rely too heavily on Messi’s health to produce results—something the Herons amply demonstrated on Saturday.

Even though their most recent victory over DC United is a significant step in the right direction, Inter Miami still has a ways to go before they can be considered a serious contender without Messi in the lineup.

The Herons team seemed to recognize this as well, as Campana is one of the players who has stepped up this year in Messi’s absence from the starting lineup.

“We understand how vital Leo is to the team, what he is, and what he represents within us,” Campana stated. We will probably have to take the lead since we can’t really rely on him all the time.

Without Messi in the lineup, Inter Miami snapped a seven-game losing streak, thus it’s safe to conclude that the Herons overcome a significant mental obstacle in Washington.

If Inter Miami is to win as much hardware as possible this season, they will need to win games without the Argentine superstar, Messi being essential for the key matches.

The 36-year-old’s health will undoubtedly be a problem this season, but Inter Miami’s victory over DC United, a major MLS team, on Saturday may make this the most significant outcome for the Herons to date.
