GLENDALE, Arizona — Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts squared up after going toe-to-toe in Super Bowl LVII.

Hurts was on his way to his postgame interview in one of the tunnels beneath State Farm Stadium after having already showered and changed. With a few of confetti strands at his feet and a title hat on his head reversed, Mahomes was still in his jersey.

Mahomes said, “Hell of a game,” as they hugged. “What a game.”

The quarterback for the Chiefs made the remark in regards to Hurts’ showing in his first NFL championship game. However, he could have just as easily been discussing the battle between two potent attacks, in which the quarterback for the Eagles came dangerously close to matching the MVP of the league.

On Sunday night, kicker Harrison Butker’s 27-yard field goal sealed a second-half comeback and sent Kansas City past the Eagles, 38-35, giving Mahomes the ultimate say—at least until eight seconds remained.

If Mahomes outperformed his opponent in his second MVP-winning Super Bowl triumph, it was by the narrowest of margins. However, Hurts committed a costly fumble in the second quarter that was recovered for a touchdown, while he did not commit any other turnovers.
