unexpected:Dak Prescott has being suspended for the entire 2024 season due to…..
Dak Prescott’s contract negotiations are allegedly being handled strangely by the Dallas Cowboys.
The Dallas Cowboys have remained relatively quiet this offseason in terms of headlines, largely due to their lack of activity in free agency. However, there has been notable NFL news surrounding contract negotiations with quarterback Dak Prescott, shedding light on the ongoing discussions between the two parties.
Since the team’s elimination from the playoffs, there appears to have been a back-and-forth dynamic between Dallas and its star quarterback regarding a possible contract extension. While team owner Jerry Jones initially expressed reservations about extending Prescott’s contract, CEO Stephen Jones has indicated the club’s strong desire to do so.
In March, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported that Prescott and the Cowboys had a “mutual understanding” regarding his contract situation, suggesting he would become a free agent in 2025. However, this was later refuted by Josina Anderson of CBS Sports, who indicated that both sides were seeking an extension. Now, there has been a further development in the situation.
During an appearance on Saturday’s SportsCenter, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler explained that the Cowboys are taking a more passive approach to contract talks with Prescott.
According to Fowler, a source within the team clarified that the notion of the Cowboys not wanting to retain Prescott beyond 2024, when he becomes a free agent, is inaccurate. The team still firmly believes in Prescott and desires a long-term commitment from him. However, their efforts toward a contract extension thus far have been relatively passive. Prescott’s significant cap hit for the current year and the presence of dead money in the following year give him considerable leverage in negotiations. Nonetheless, the Cowboys remain committed to allocating funds toward retaining key players, including Prescott, albeit with a cautious approach to the negotiation process.
