Vasseur confirms Ferrari 2025 contender 99% ‘ALL NEW’.
Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur has unveiled plans for the Scuderia’s 2025 Formula 1 car, codenamed “Project 677,” a groundbreaking design that marks the beginning of the Lewis Hamilton era at Maranello.
In a bold departure from tradition, fewer than 1% of the car’s components will be carried over from its 2024 predecessor, signaling Ferrari’s commitment to returning to the pinnacle of Formula 1.
Speaking at Ferrari’s annual end-of-season media lunch, Vasseur emphasized the team’s ambition and readiness to embrace significant risks to achieve success.
Reflecting on the challenges and progress made during the 2024 season, he outlined the fresh philosophy driving Project 677 while acknowledging the uncertainties that come with such a radical approach.
“The car will be completely new, with less than 1% of the parts shared with the 2024 car,” Vasseur revealed.
“It’s a different project, but the same applies to everyone. If it will be competitive, we’ll find out in Bahrain.”
Ferrari has faced criticism for inconsistent performances in recent years, but their 2024 campaign showcased notable progress in both pace and reliability.
However, with the 2025 car, the team is aiming to take a significant step forward.
While many competitors are beginning to focus resources on the major regulation changes for 2026, Ferrari has chosen to prioritize its 2025 campaign, doubling down on the opportunity to challenge for the title.
“We can’t say now if 2025 will be our year, but I trust the project we’re working on,” Vasseur stated.
“This year, we tackled difficulties well, but consistency remains an area for improvement. The upcoming season will be an equally intense challenge.”
The arrival of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton has further raised expectations within the team and among fans.
Hamilton’s move to Ferrari has been one of the most talked-about transfers in motorsport, and his debut in Ferrari red is anticipated to be a defining moment for both the driver and the team.
To help him acclimate to his new surroundings, Hamilton is set to complete his first laps for Ferrari in January at Fiorano, driving an older-spec car.
“We are dependent on the weather in January, which makes it tricky,” Vasseur noted. “It will be emotional for Hamilton because this is a moment he’s likely envisioned for 20 years.
However, emotions can only last for one lap—then it’s time to focus.”
Vasseur described the team’s packed schedule leading into the season.
After Hamilton’s initial testing at Fiorano, Ferrari will participate in pre-season events, including the Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) program and Pirelli tests.
The season’s official launch will take place on February 18 at the O2 Arena in London, followed by the unveiling of the 2025 car on February 19.
Shortly after, the team will head to Bahrain for the season-opening tests, setting the tone for a demanding campaign.
Vasseur acknowledged the tight timeline for preparation, stating, “We’ll have just four weeks at the factory before the first event, but it is what it is.”
Ferrari’s determination is evident in every aspect of Project 677.
The all-new design represents a bold shift in philosophy, one that underscores the team’s high expectations for 2025.
Vasseur’s vision, combined with Hamilton’s proven talent and hunger for an eighth world title, has injected a renewed sense of optimism into the Scuderia.
While questions remain about the car’s competitiveness, Ferrari is leaving no stone unturned in its pursuit of excellence.
For the team, Project 677 is more than just a car—it symbolizes Ferrari’s unwavering ambition to reclaim its place at the top of Formula 1.
As the team prepares for this pivotal chapter, all eyes will be on Maranello to see if they can finally deliver on their long-standing promise of championship glory.
