VCARB and Red Bull Announce Major 2025 Driver Lineup Changes, Rafaela Ferreira Joins F1 Academy
AFormula 1 team has confirmed a driver lineup change for the 2025 season, sparking potential movement on the grid. With only one spot remaining at Sauber for 2025, speculation suggests a lineup reshuffle could happen after the Mexican Grand Prix. Red Bull, faced with a possible opening due to Sergio Perez’s disappointing performances this season, might promote VCARB driver Liam Lawson. Perez, who recently placed P17 in Mexico and struggled in recent races, is now at risk of being replaced despite a contract extension earlier this year.
If Lawson is promoted, VCARB would have an open seat, and Franco Colapinto, who has recently impressed with his performances at Williams, is rumored to be a candidate. Meanwhile, VCARB has also announced a significant change to their driver lineup for the 2025 F1 Academy season. Brazilian driver Rafaela Ferreira, known for her 2022 pole position in the Copa Brasil de Kart and podium finishes in the Brazilian F4 Championship, will join the all-female racing series, replacing current VCARB driver Amna Al Qubaisi.
VCARB team principal Laurent Mekies expressed his excitement about Rafaela’s arrival, highlighting her talent and the importance of providing a platform for women in motorsport. “Rafaela is an exceptional emerging talent, and we’re pleased to welcome her to the VCARB family,” Mekies stated. He praised F1 Academy for creating revolutionary exposure for women in motorsport and hopes the platform will continue to inspire new female talent. Mekies added that VCARB is looking forward to supporting Rafaela’s growth as a driver in the competitive landscape.
