Verstappen in EMOTIONAL tribute after Red Bull release
Max Verstappen has expressed gratitude to Sergio Perez following Red Bull’s announcement that the Mexican driver will leave the team at the end of the 2024 season.
Perez, who joined Red Bull in 2021, contributed significantly to the team’s success, winning five races and playing a crucial role in securing constructors’ championships in 2022 and 2023.
However, his inconsistent performances over the last 18 months have led to his departure, with Liam Lawson confirmed as his replacement for the 2025 season.
Despite a strong start to his Red Bull career, Perez’s struggles in recent seasons hindered the team’s overall performance, resulting in a third-place finish in the 2024 constructors’ standings, even as Verstappen dominated the drivers’ championship.
Notably, Perez delivered standout moments, including a memorable victory at the Monaco Grand Prix and an exceptional defensive performance against Lewis Hamilton in the 2021 Abu Dhabi finale, aiding Verstappen’s first title win.
Red Bull acknowledged Perez’s contributions, highlighting his role in their championship campaigns and his second-place finish in the 2023 drivers’ standings.
Although his partnership with Verstappen lacked equal pace, it was marked by harmony, enabling the Dutchman to claim four consecutive world titles.
In response to the announcement, Verstappen shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, thanking Perez for their time as teammates.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure driving alongside you. We’ve had some amazing moments together that I’ll always remember. Thank you, Checo!” wrote Verstappen, reflecting their successful partnership.
