Although the Pittsburgh Steelers had a good run last season, they didn’t really do well in the playoffs. The team can do better when the NFL returns later this year by signing cornerback Kendall Fuller from the Washington Commanders.

Although the Steelers ranked sixth in offense among all 32 teams in the NFL, their 28-place defense could use some help. As it stands, their lineup of cornerbacks, which included Levi Wallace and Joey Porter Jr., isn’t enough to handle any opposing team’s wide receivers.

While Pittsburgh finished with a 10-7 record to rank third in the AFC North division, their playoff performance against the Buffalo Bills left a lot to be desired. Their 31-17 loss against them in the wild card round is proof that the team needs to improve the Steelers’ roster for the upcoming season.

In line with this, the front office can start building a more competent defensive lineup for players interested in going to Pittsburgh. Among those that can be considered is the Commanders’ Kendall Fuller.

Why The Pittsburgh Steelers Must Sign Kendall Fuller In Free Agency

If acquired, Fuller will be providing some talent into the Steelers’ lineup. Aaron Schatz dove deeper in his article for ESPN:

“The Steelers have some need at cornerback, especially if they decide to move Patrick Peterson to safety full-time. Fuller was the only Commanders cornerback last season with strong coverage numbers.

His coverage DVOA was similar to those of L’Jarius Sneed and Marshon Lattimore, although he did allow a lot of touchdowns. In Pittsburgh, he could play opposite Joey Porter Jr. and take the easier assignment while Porter works on the opposition’s No. 1 receiver. Fuller should be good enough to allow Pittsburgh’s safeties to shade toward Porter’s man,” Schatz wrote.

The hypothetical use of Fuller in Pittsburgh would open up several opportunities for the cornerbacks to elevate their game. It would also possibly improve their defense, which ranks among the worst in the NFL.
