Zak Brown Reveals McLaren Discussed Future Plans with Verstappen’sAmid Future Speculation

In a surprising development that has added fresh intrigue to the Formula 1 driver market, McLaren CEO Zak Brown has confirmed that the team held preliminary discussions with representatives of Max Verstappen regarding the Dutch driver’s future.

Brown’s revelation came during a recent media session ahead of the upcoming Grand Prix weekend, where he acknowledged that McLaren is keeping all options open as it looks to build a title-contending team in the next few seasons. Though he stopped short of confirming any formal negotiations, Brown stated, “We’ve spoken with several drivers’ camps over the past year, including Max’s. It’s part of the process of understanding what might be possible down the line.”

Verstappen, currently locked into a long-term contract with Red Bull until 2028, has repeatedly emphasized his commitment to the Milton Keynes-based team. However, recent internal tensions and rumors of dissatisfaction with the team’s leadership have sparked speculation about his future.

When asked about the possibility of Verstappen switching to McLaren, Brown was measured in his response. “Max is obviously an exceptional talent and a world champion. Every team would love to have someone like him. But we respect his current commitment to Red Bull.”

McLaren’s current driver lineup — Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri — has been widely praised for its consistency and potential. Still, the idea of pairing either with Verstappen in the future has excited fans and analysts alike.

F1 insiders suggest that while a move in the short term is highly unlikely, Brown’s comments indicate McLaren’s ambitions and readiness to pounce should Verstappen ever reconsider his options.

Red Bull has not commented on the situation, but sources close to the team maintain that Verstappen remains fully engaged with their long-term vision.

As the 2025 season heats up, the possibility of seismic shifts in the driver market continues to hover on the horizon.
