🚨| Jos Verstappen: ‘Max Will No Longer Attend F1 Events in England’

Jos Verstappen has voiced his frustration over the treatment his son, Max Verstappen, and Red Bull team principal Christian Horner received during the recent F1 75 event in London. The elder Verstappen criticized the crowd’s behavior, calling it “shameful” after both Max and Horner were subjected to loud booing by the audience. This reaction has led Max to decide he will no longer attend similar events in England, citing the negative atmosphere.

Reflecting on the incident, Jos Verstappen shared his disappointment with how the situation unfolded. He expressed his concern that Max and Red Bull’s presence at the event, meant to promote Formula 1 and celebrate the sport’s history, was met with such hostility.

“In itself, I thought it was a reasonable set-up,” Jos said, referring to the overall organization of the event. “But I thought it was shameful what happened there with Red Bull Racing.”

The crowd’s reaction to Christian Horner was particularly troubling for Jos. He emphasized how unfair it was for the Red Bull team principal to be treated with such disrespect, given his significant role in the sport. “That Christian Horner was booed like that, and Max was booed too. Look, you’re there for Formula 1, you’re there to promote the sport, and then you’re booed by the public. I don’t think that’s acceptable.”

According to Jos, Max’s straightforward attitude might have contributed to the crowd’s negative response. He suggested that Max’s tendency to speak his mind, especially when it comes to his rivalry with British drivers, might have provoked the reaction from the audience.

“I get it because Max is the only one who fires up those Englishmen and says exactly how things are,” Jos said. “But I don’t think this is acceptable, it’s really a disappointment what happened there.”

The experience has left a lasting impact on Max Verstappen, who has no plans to attend future events in England following the incident. Jos revealed that Max felt there was no reason to participate in events where he would be subjected to such hostile treatment.

“No, Max has no appetite for that, to be booed like that in front of 25,000 people,” Jos said. “He also says: ‘If this is in England next year, they definitely won’t see me.’”

Jos fully supported his son’s decision, questioning the purpose of attending events where the environment is so hostile. He emphasized that the goal of these gatherings is to promote the sport and showcase new developments, but when the crowd turns on drivers in such a manner, it undermines the entire purpose of the event.

“You’re there to promote the sport and showcase the new color schemes of the cars,” Jos explained. “But if they then go on a rampage like this, the question is, what are you there to do? He has to get ready to go there anyway, but then you get booed like that. I think they need to take a hard look at that because that’s not part of this sport.”

The situation raises questions about the atmosphere surrounding Formula 1 events in England, particularly for drivers like Max Verstappen, who have faced criticism and boos from British crowds. While rivalry is part of the sport’s competitive nature, Jos Verstappen believes that booing drivers during public events crosses a line, especially when those drivers are there to promote the very sport the fans claim to love.

The incident at the F1 75 event could signal a shift in how some drivers approach their public appearances, especially in regions where the crowd’s reception is hostile. For now, it appears Max Verstappen has made up his mind: he will not be attending any future F1 promotional events in England, ensuring that such a negative experience doesn’t happen again.
